Types Of Fiber Sealing Gaskets

Jan 17, 2025

The main types of fiber sealing gaskets include asbestos-free fiber compression gaskets, polytetrafluoroethylene gaskets and rubber sheet gaskets.

Asbestos-free fiber compression gaskets
Asbestos-free fiber compression gaskets mainly include aramid fiber sheet gaskets and fiber reinforced sheet gaskets. Aramid fiber sheet gaskets are made of high-quality asbestos-free fibers and artificial fibers through hot rolling. They have good water resistance, gas resistance and steam resistance and are suitable for weak acids, water, steam, industrial gas, synthetic oil, vegetable oil, refrigerants and other media. Fiber reinforced sheet gaskets contain special fibers, aramid fibers and elastic binders suitable for steam use. They are suitable for water, salt water, gas, oil and medium-strength chemicals, especially steam, but cannot be used in environments with chlorinated hydrocarbons, aromatic ketones and esters.

Polytetrafluoroethylene gaskets
Polytetrafluoroethylene gaskets are divided into pure polytetrafluoroethylene sheet gaskets and blue glass fiber reinforced polytetrafluoroethylene gaskets. Pure PTFE sheet gaskets are made of pure PTFE material, have excellent corrosion resistance, and are suitable for most media, but cannot be used for strong oxidizing media such as fuming sulfuric acid, fuming nitric acid, aqua regia and fluorine. Blue glass fiber reinforced PTFE gaskets use glass fiber to fill high-quality PTFE, have good chemical resistance, and are suitable for most media, but are not recommended for fluorine and molten alkali metals.

Rubber sheet gaskets
Rubber sheet gaskets include nitrile rubber sheet gaskets, fluororubber sheet gaskets, chloroprene rubber sheet gaskets, EPDM rubber sheet gaskets and silicone rubber sheet gaskets. Nitrile rubber sheet gaskets are suitable for petroleum products such as petroleum, lubricating oil, fuel oil, etc. The long-term use temperature is 120℃ and the low temperature is -10~-20℃. Fluororubber sheet gaskets have significant high temperature resistance, oxidation resistance and resistance to various liquids, and are suitable for ester lubricants, halogenated hydrocarbons above 100℃, liquid petroleum, etc. Neoprene sheet gaskets are suitable for seawater, weak acid, weak alkali, and salt solution. Their oil resistance is inferior to that of nitrile rubber but better than other general-purpose rubbers. EPDM sheet gaskets are suitable for alcohol, dilute acid, automotive brake fluid, cold and hot water and other media. Silicone rubber sheet gaskets are suitable for air, acetylacetone and other media, and have good heat resistance and cold resistance.
